Image Description

August 19, 2025

On the HCFA-1500 form, Box 24C is labeled “EMG” and is used to indicate whether a particular service line was performed as an emergency.

Tip: This box is not often used. Only populate it with Y (Yes) when the service was performed in an emergency situation. If not, leave it blank—do not enter N or any other value.

In our example below, the provider reported an emergency service with a value of Y for the first service line.
