This information identifies the specialty of the provider who actually performed the line-level service being billed.

The PRV segment is situational. It should be reported when the payer requires the rendering provider’s taxonomy code at the service line level. Payers may use this information to validate network status, confirm benefit coverage, or apply specialty-specific claim adjudication rules.

• PE – Provider Code indicating the Rendering (Performing) Provider.
• ZZ – Reference Identification Qualifier, meaning the following value is a Health Care Provider Taxonomy Code.
